Nelle Fotheringham

Nellie Fotheringham is a self-taught artist, and her interest is in abstract art. Nellie retired from healthcare in 2018 where she worked as a Medical Laboratory Technologist. She always has had a keen interest in art but only started to pursue making her own art after her retirement. Nellie is drawn to angular geometric shapes using color, lines, and textures. She started out using heavy acrylic paints and a palette knife. Her main focus now is creating paintings with cold wax medium, oil paints, oil sticks, and graphite powder. She uses a variety of tools including squeegees, brayers, and palette knives. These methods create depth and history with multiple layers as well as selectively scraping and dissolving areas to reveal underlying layers.

Nellie lives with her husband Gregg at Kilman Resort. They go back and forth to Reston where they farm with their eldest son Jamie and his wife Julie. When Nellie is at the farm, she loves to spend time with her grandchildren Atlas and Maizey. Gregg and Nellie have another son Reed and his wife Hailee, who live in Landmark, Manitoba. They just had brand new twin sons who were born on August 11th, Rylen and Huxley. They also have a daughter, Mallory, who lives with her husband John in Strathmore, Alberta.
