Established in Canada in 1998 by the League of Canadian Poets, National Poetry Month takes place every April and brings together schools, publishers, booksellers, literary organizations, libraries, communities, and poets from across the country to celebrate poetry and its vital place in Canada’s culture. The theme this year is Weather. In honour of poetry and weather and hope, please enjoy the following poem.
The Rainy Day

In honour of Joan Havelange, let me tell you a little bit about her latest book to be published and land on your small-town libraries shelves, (Binscarth and Russell). On Wednesday past, Joan shared from her book, fielded questions, and offered a copy of The Séance Murders in a free draw. Isabel Wendell was the winner of the draw and Joan signed her copy for her as well. The Séance Murders is the Saskatchewan entry to a Canadian Historical Mysteries series of books by Canadian authors. 1908: Regina, Saskatchewan, the railroad hub of the prairies, is booming. The foxtrot is the latest craze hitting the dancehalls, and silent movies are all the rage. But, it’s the newest fad, seances, that intrigues Myrtle Vanhoff. Stop in, check out a copy and embark on the kind of deliciously bone chilling romp only Havelange can write. Look for the other books in the series at your small-town library, soon.
